The homeside started the game brightly and tried to put Jed Legion under pressure in the windy conditions. The first chance for Chirnside fell to Lackenby but he shot straight at the side netting when cutting in from the left. Chirnside continued to put Jed under pressure and were soon rewarded when a break up field by Romaines saw him collect a good lay off from Lackenby and he smashed in an unstoppable shot from 20 yards. Despite going one down Jed seemed to be spurred on by the early set back and started to get their passing game going, however the found it hard to break down Chirnside defence. However after a succession of corners Jed got the equaliser when some poor marking saw the Jed player rise at the near post to head home a good header.

It was now Chirnsides time to recover and they did so by going back into the lead after a good counter attack by Condy saw him play the ball to midfield partner Jess who skinned the on rushing centre half and tucked the ball past the keeper. The home side were now well on top and nearly increased their lead in fortuitous fashion when a cross from the left was caught by the wind and swung back towards goal just missing the right hand post. Chirnside soon got their third when after a number of corners Condy swung one in on top of the keeper for him to palm it into the goal. It was now all Chirnside and after another couple of missed chances, they got their fourth just before half time when a freekick from Morrison into the box saw Lackenby out muscle his marker to glance a header into the goal.

The papermakers began the second half again on the front foot and put the Jed backline immediately under pressure. The continuing pressure resulted in a number of corners which resulted in number of missed chances which should of put the game to bed. The game was soon turned on it head after a poor goal kick in the Chirnside goal saw Jed pull a goal back. This got Jeds backs up and they continued to apply pressure but for all their possession they couldn’t break through the Chirnside defence. They did pull another goal back when a lucky break of the ball landed at the feet of the striker to neatly tuck away. Jed very nearly equalised when a cross was deflected and looped over Todd in the Chirnside goal only to bounce back of the bar for the Chirnside defence to clear.

After 20 minutes on the back foot Chirnside got back into the game and should have put the game out of sight when Young released Shennan through one on one with the keeper, but the experienced striker made a complete mess of the finish. Shennan soon made amends when again Young sent him through one on one and this time he made no mistake and slotted the ball past the on rushing keeper. This finished the game off and Chirnside seen out of the rest of the game to progress to the next round of the Beveridge Cup.
