Report

On paper this gamed looked as it was, a one sided affair but the final scoreline was far from how the game went with Chirnside creating as many goal scoring chances as West Barns but on the day West Barns took their chances by being more clinical in front of goal.

The first 15 minutes were fairly even with both sides having chances to open the scoring. The first of these chances fell to Adam Smith who didn’t connect properly with the ball from 12 yards and making an easy safe for the West Barns Keeper. Joe Condy and Connor Lough both went close with Lough also hitting the post but it was West Barns who opened the scoring on 20 minutes when their striker outpaced Stevie Christie on the left to get his shot away which turned out to be a perfect cross and landed at the feet of his strike partner at the back post to slide the ball into the net. Connor Lough brought out a good save from the West Barns Keeper which would have equalised but within a minute from that save West Barns scored their second after their number 11 out jumped Jamie Stobie to a header and proceeded to turn Duncan Morrison in the box to get a cross in which was well headed by the West Barns Striker to score. 5 minutes before half time West Barns got their third from a shot from 18 yards which went through a ruck of players and ended up in the net. Just before half time Mark Bolton had his free kick well saved by the Keeper to keep the score at 3 nil at half time.

The second half continued in the same vein as the first with Chirnside just edging it on chances created but failing to make the West Barns Keeper make any significant saves, with Lough Condy and Mikey Patterson all going close. West Barns added two more goals late in the game to take their tally to 5 which was not a true reflection on how the game went – but its goals that count and West Barns certainly deserved their win by being more clinical in front of goal.
