Chirnside started on the front foot and totally dominated this game playing some good fast flowing passing football but only went in at half time one goal to the good after some great and rather fortuitous saves from the Ancrum Keeper.

The first chance for Chirnside came after 5 minutes from a Robbie Armstrong corner which was met at the back post by a header from Stevie Christie but the Keeper got his hand to it and put it round the post. An Armstrong free kick from 20 yards hit the bar and from the rebound Joe Condy hit a shot through a crowd of players which hit the goal keeper then the post and was cleared for a corner. Adam Smith cut in from the left and unleashed a shot which grazed the far post. Connor Lough had another shot from an acute angle from which the goal keeper stuck out his leg sending the ball by the post for another corner. Connor Lough did eventually get a goal for Chirnside after half an hour from an Armstrong corner which looked to be going in anyway but the striker made sure it did. Duncan Morrison made a goal saving tackle in the six yard box to keep the score at 1 nil on a rare Ancrum effort at goal.

Into the second half and the Ancrum goal keeper nearly equalised from a long goal kick which Chirnside goal keeper Martin Todd misjudged the bounce of the ball allowing it to go over his head but unfortunately for Ancrum the ball hit the post. Graham Kelly went on a solo run into the box and unleashed a shot which hit the Keeper’s knee and rebounded up and hit the bar and was cleared off the line. On 75 minutes Armstrong cut in from the right hit his shot which hit the inside of the post rebounding across the goal, hit the Keeper, rebounding off him and hit the underside of the bar and ended up at Adam Smith’s feet for him to slam into the net to make the score 2 nil. Daniel Pattenden put the game to bed after Joe Condy played him in and he went round his marker and went one on one with the Keeper and superbly stroked the ball into the bottom corner of the net to make the score 3 nil. With 10 minutes left Chirnside should have went 4 nil up when they found themselves on a 4 versus 1 situation but with Armstrong trying to do it all by himself instead of passing the ball to one of his three team mates the opportunity for goal number 4 was lost.
