Report

Two goals from Joe Condy secured all three points for Chirnside on Saturday against a much improved Jed side from when they played the last time in a Cup Game and won quite comfortably.

Chirnside dominated the first 25 minutes of this game and could have been two goals to the good one coming from Daniel Pattenden after a great solo run beating three defenders and firing a shot across goal which came back off the post from which Adam Turner just failed to get on the rebound. Adam Turner was giving the Jed defence a hard time with his runs down the right-hand side and getting in some decent crosses but chances went a begging with Joe Condy and Connor Lough both bringing out good saves from the Jed Keeper.

Against the run of play Jed took the lead from a poor pass out of defence from Mikey Patterson which gave possession to Jed and they took full advantage with the left back scoring from a great shot from 20 yards. Chirnside were creating more problems for themselves by constantly giving the ball away with some poor passing, fortunately for them Jed didn’t take full advantage of the opportunities which they were presented with and the score remained 1 - 0 at half time.

Chirnside played much better in the second half and went close to scoring on numerous occasions, one from a corner from Daniel Pattenden from which Duncan Morrison grazed the post from a header and two thunderbolt shots from Keir Blaikie were well saved by the Jed Keeper. The pressure finally paid off when Joe Condy got his head onto an Adam Turner corner to score at the back post.

Connor Lough should have been awarded a penalty after he was scythed down from behind when he was about to score but the Referee waved play on. With 15 minutes left a clear handball in the box by a Jed defender was noticed by the Referee and a penalty was awarded from which Joe Condy stepped up and slotted the ball into the bottom corner of the net to make the score 2 – 1.

Jed should have equalised from a scuffed shot from the Jed striker which Jamie Stobie cleared off the line and allowed Keeper Martin Todd to dive on the ball from which he promptly threw back out straight to the Jed striker which took him by surprise and was closed down by defender Stevie Christie before he could get his shot away. With 2 minutes left another fine solo run by Daniel Pattenden should have resulted in Chirnside’s third but was cleared off the line to make the final score 2 -1 to Chirnside.
