Chirnside’s recent revival came to an end when they were quite comfortably beaten by Greenlaw on Saturday. Greenlaw took the lead after 10 mins when Adam Smith lost possession of the ball in his own half and the next time a Chirnside player touched the ball was the Keeper Martin Todd picking the ball out of the net.

Chirnside should have equalised within 2 minutes but Adam Turner made a complete hash of his attempt at goal when he blasted the ball over the bar from 6 yards with the goal at his mercy. Chirnside lost two players Robbie Armstrong and Jamie Stobie through injuries but they did get the equaliser when Keir Blaikie finished off a fine move involving Joe Condy and Adam Smith.

Two poor decisions by the Referee stopped Chirnside taking the lead after he blew for offside on both occasions which was pretty hard to take considering he was on the half way line when he made these decisions. A free kick for Greenlaw was cleared out by Duncan Morrison but some poor marking allowed the ball to be blasted back across goal from which Greenlaw scored. Smiley got Greenlaw’s third after he rolled Morrison in the box to fire in a shot which went in off the post.

Greenlaw had most of the second half and with the Chirnside midfield running out of steam only some great saves from Martin Todd and even better defending from the Chirnside defence kept the scoreline down. Adam Smith had a chance to reduce the lead but screwed his shot wide of the target from 10 yards. Daniel Pattenden and Jake Lough came off the bench for Chirnside and injected some much needed pace and fitness to the side.

A penalty should have been awarded to Chirnside when Connor Lough was brought down in the box but once again making his decision from the half way line the Referee didn’t award it. Greenlaw got their fourth with 15 minutes to go after a five versus three situation occurred in Greenlaw’s favour. Connor Lough slammed in a great shot from 20 yard to reduce the leeway to make the score look a bit more respectable.
