Once again due to injuries and work commitments Chirnside had to draft in 2 players from the Colts and call on another four ex-players to field a team on Saturday. With both teams at the wrong end of the table this was a vital game for one of the teams to come away with the three points.

With Ancrum obviously seeing the changes in the Chirnside team they went all out for an early goal and for the first 15 minutes had the majority of the play but could not break down the makeshift Chirnside defence being well marshalled by Mark Hume and Jamie Stobie at the heart of the defence and full backs Davie Lough and Mickey Patterson. Chirnside then came more into the game with Duncan Morrison and Craig Dishingston settling in to take hold of the mid field and create some chances for the front two of Adam Turner and Daniel Pattenden. It was Adam Smith who had the first chance for Chirnside but shot weakly straight at the Keeper for an easy save.

He had another good effort at goal 5 minutes later but his goal bound shot hit his own player and was deflected by for a goal kick. Adam Turner was fouled just outside the box and up stepped Mark Hume to take the free kick from which he bent round the ball into the bottom corner of the net – a blast from the past – to take the lead. Chirnside scored their second within a minute of kicking off the second half after Duncan Morrison played a through ball to Daniel Pattenden who drifted by three players and unselfishly squared the ball back across the goal for Adam Turner to stroke the ball into the net.

Martin Todd in the Chirnside goal had to be on his toes on a couple of occasions to pull off a couple of fine saves from the Ancrum strikers as they began to find more holes in the Chirnside defence due to tired legs. A shot from Craig Dishington was heading into the net before it hit a defender and went out for a corner. The game was put to bed after Jake Lough and Adam Turner linked up well for Turner to scuff his shot over the Keeper from a tight angle into the net (he said he meant it).

With 5 minutes left Ancrum were awarded a penalty after Davie Lough was too tired to pull back his leg and the striker fell over it to be awarded a penalty from which they scored to make final score 3 – 1 to Chirnside.
