Chirnside were dumped out the South Cup by Third Division Biggar on Saturday.

The game was switched through to Carnwath due to the pitch at Biggar being waterlogged and the visitors once again had a thread bare squad for the journey through to Lanarkshire.

It was Biggar who came closest in the first few minutes but their striker mis-kicked from inside the six yard box. Chirnside had the next chance of the game but Turner's effort was blocked by the goalkeeper as he went clean through on goal.

The visitors took the lead on the quarter hour mark when Turner played Armstrong through and he made no mistake with a right foot shot that lifted over the keeper.

Biggar were back on level terms five minutes later when their central midfielder hit a speculative shot from distance that seemed to carry in the wind and over the top of Todd in the Chirnside goal for the equaliser.

The home team had the wind behind their backs in the first half and they added number two when their striker lobbed Todd from 20 yards after the Chirnside defence had been calling for offside.

Chirnside had a great chance to equalise after Turner's shot had come off the post but Blaikie saw his left foot shot go wide with the goal at his mercy.

Biggar scored their third five minutes before the interval when the number 10 slammed home a loose ball in the box.

Into the second half and Chirnside had to replace Condy with their only substitute Blacklock and things started badly when Kelly pulled down the Biggar striker. The same player dusted himself off but Todd made a great save to deny him.

Up at the other end of the park Chirnside were awarded a penalty when a defender handled in the box. Kelly blasted his penalty straight down the middle to give the visitors hope of a comeback.

Purves had a good chance to equalise but his left foot shot was easily saved by the keeper and he injured himself in the process but he had to battle on and play as there was no one left on the bench.

Biggar were then awarded another penalty when Turner was this time adjudged to have fouled in the box. This time the sweeper stepped up to the spot and tucked the ball away into the corner of the net.

Chirnside battled to the end and Morrison was inches away from an Armstrong free-kick. Stobie went off injured with ten minutes to go as the injury ravaged team move back to league duty next weekend in a must win game against fellow strugglers Ancrum.
