Gordon 4 – Chirnside 2

Chirnside started in their usual fashion by conceding a goal inside the first 5 minutes and giving themselves a mountain to climb against a very workmanlike and fit Gordon team. This was the fifth game in a row that Chirnside have had to reshuffle their team due to work commitments and late call offs and as results have shown in these games it has taken its toll and this game was no different.

Gordon took the lead within a minute of kick off after a cross ball from the right was missed by Graham Kelly and Keeper Martin Todd and poor marking at the back post by Graham Patterson allowed the striker an easy finish. Chirnside regained their composure after that and went on to play some decent football without getting the reward their play deserved. A cross from Adam Smith found striker Mikey Patterson who made a text book header back across the goal and down into the ground only for it to bounce up and hit the bar.

Chirnside had most of the possession and chances leading up to half time but things just wouldn’t fall for them. Keir Blaikie hit the bar again from a shot from 18 yards but within a minute from that Gordon went up the other end and scored their second goal just on half time.

Gordon got their third from a deflected cross from the left for another tap in. Duncan Morrison had the ball in the net but was disallowed by the Referee saying the Keeper had the ball in his hands, but the ball was on the ground and there to be won. Keeper Stanton saved well from a looping header. Mickey Patterson should have reduced the score line when the Gordon Keeper spilled the ball but scuffed his effort by the post.

Graham Kelly eventually got a goal for Chirnside scoring from a goal mouth scramble. The Gordon Keeper had a great goal line save from Keir Blaikie, but once again Gordon broke up-field in numbers to expose the Chirnside defence and score their fourth. Jake Lough scored Chirnside’s second goal with 10 minutes of play remaining to make the final score 4 – 2 to Gordon.
