Border Cup
Jedburgh – 3 Chirnside United – 6

Chirnside travelled to Jedburgh on Saturday with only 11 players available for this Border Cup Tie and came away with a fine win from a great team performance.

Chirnside started on the front foot and were four goals up within the first half hour, the first coming from a superb free kick from 25 yards from Adam Turner who found the top corner of the net. Mikey Patterson got the second from a Stevie Christie header across goal from which Patterson scored from a typical poacher. A shot from 20 yards by Mikey Patterson was fumbled by the Keeper and Adam Turner was on hand to fire in from an acute angle. Keir Blaikie fired in the fourth goal from 16 yards giving the Keeper no chance. Jed should have got a goal back but their striker hit the underside of the bar from 6 yards however, he did make amends for that miss five minutes later firing in at the back post from a cross from the right to make the score 4 – 1 at half time.

Jed got right back into the game after half time when they were awarded a penalty after Stevie Christie clearly got the ball before the striker but the Referee gave a penalty. When asked why by Chirnside’s Captain Morrison, his reason being that Christie got the ball two seconds quicker using undue force and in football terms that means a perfectly good 50/50. Jed did score from the penalty when it was eventually taken to make the score 4 – 2. Whilst Chirnside were still arguing about that penalty decision Jed got on with it and within a minute scored their third from a goal mouth scramble. Graham Patterson stopped a certain equaliser when he threw his body in front of a powerful shot. Another great tackle from Jordan Blaikie put a stop to another Jed attack. A long range effort hit the bar and another from 12 yards hit the post from constant Jed attacks. Chirnside did eventually regain their composure and a good move from Joe Condy and Graham Kelly to get the ball to Keir Blaikie who cut the ball back across goal for Adam Smith to side foot it past the Keeper to make the score 5 – 3. Adam Smith repaid the compliment after he cut the ball back across goal for Keir Blaikie to completely bamboozle his marker and the goal keeper with an amazing pirouette to send them both the wrong way and roll the ball into an empty net to make the final score 6 – 3.
