West Barns 3 – Chirnside United 2

For the second week in a row missed chances cost Chirnside a share of the points in their game against West Barns on Saturday. West Barns took an early lead from a deflected free kick which resulted in a goal mouth scramble and was eventually headed in at the back post from their extremely tall centre half. Chirnside should have equalised after Robbie Armstrong beat the offside trap to break clean through but a poor effort from him resulted in an easy save for the West Barns’ Keeper.

After half an hour Armstrong once again had a great opportunity to make the scores level but he shot too early and completely missed the target. West Barns took full advantage of these missed opportunities and went up the other end and score their second goal after possession was lost in midfield allowing their number 8 to score. Adam Smith did get a goal back for Chirnside just before half time after a shot from Keir Blaikie was cleared off the line but the alert Smith blasted the rebound into the net.

After half time Adam Smith, Keir Blaikie and new signing Mikey Patterson all had half chances to get back on level terms but to no avail. Martin Todd in the Chirnside goal pulled off two tremendous saves to thwart the Barns’ strikers but was eventually beat from a corner after he palmed the ball away which fell kindly at the feet of the Barns’ striker for an easy tap in.

Graham Patterson pulled another goal back for Chirnside from a sweetly struck shot from 18 yards to make the score 3 -2 to the Barns. With five minutes left Kevin Strachan went one on one with the Keeper and got his shot away which beat the Keeper and looked to be over the line before a Defender kicked it out and the Referee waved play on to deny Chirnside a share of the points.
