Report

Chirnside entertained Langholm in a reverse of the previous fixture between these two sides.

The homeside started the stronger of the two teams, playing the ball around and keeping possession of the ball. It wasn’t long before Chirnside created the first chance of the game but Windram saw his shot miss the target. The men on green were well on top and soon made it one nil when a good move starting from the goalkeeper Cowe saw McCrudden cross for Lauder to score from 4 yards. Chirnside nearly made it two nil but skipper Young saw his free kick from 25 yards rattle the outside of the post. Windram also had a great chance to increase the lead but he blazed the ball over the crossbar with just the keeper to beat. As the first half edged into the last 15 minutes Langholm started to come back into the game and had the lions share of possession but they struggled to create any clear cut chances in the Chirnside box.

HT 1-0

Langholm began the second half on the front foot and soon got an equaliser when a fortunate break of the ball allowed the striker to break through on goal and slot the ball under Cowe in the Chirnside goal. Chirnside should have regained the lead again after a good move saw McCrudden through on goal but he made a mess of the chance when it looked easier to score. Langholm soon scored their second when a long ball up front was chased down by the full back who unleashed a half volley from 30 yards over Cowes head, off the bar and into the back of the net. Chirnside didn’t let their heads go down and levelled things up on the 35 minute mark when a long through ball by Stobie was bravely headed into the net by Young despite the keepers attempted punched clearance.

However the scores were level for a matter of minutes when Langholm lofted in a freekick to the Chirnside box only to be misjudged by Cowe and the ball ended up landing at the feet of the striker for a simple tap in.

But once again Chirnside responded, with only 5 minutes left they were awarded a free kick 30 yards from goal. Young stepped up and blasted a great shot round the wall and off the post into the net giving the keeper no chance.
