Chirnside knew three points on Saturday would almost certainly guarantee their survival in the A Division for next season and they duly delivered with a fine performance.

The game kicked off with both teams finding it hard to adapt to the hard, bobbly pitch. A few players were also caught out early on with the bounce of the ball. It was the away team though that took the initiative ten minutes in. A long throw by Stobie was only partially cleared by the Langholm defence and Windram was on hand to fire home into the bottom corner. Shortly after that the home team had their best chance of the game when their striker went past three men before sliding in with keeper Cowe but unluckily his shot came back off the post and away to safety.

After this scare Chirnside began to play a bit of football with Young dominant in the centre of midfield and McCrudden and Strachan looking dangerous out wide. However despite having more of the possession the away team failed to add to their goal tally and went in at half time just one goal to the good.

HT 0-1

The second half kicked off and almost immediately Chirnside had doubled their goal tally. A great cross field pass by Morrison was met by McCrudden, he played the ball down the line to Windram and his cut back was met by Lauder to side foot past the helpless Langholm keeper.

Chirnside kept the pressure on the home team and on the hour mark Young scored a wonder goal from 20 yards. A ball was played from the right and the captain hit a shot with the outside of his left foot on the run swerving it into the top left hand corner of the net.

After this the home team tried to pressure the Chirnside defence but Cowe was rarely troubled in goal. With the game in the closing stages Christie was adjudged to have pulled down the home striker and the resulting penalty was dispatched into the bottom corner for a a late consolation.

This was a good three points for Chirnside who now have only three home leagues left to play before their season ends.
