Chirnside continued their recent run of good form with a good all round display at the tight West Barns Star pitch. The away side started the brighter of the two teams and tried to get the ball out to the flanks as much as possible to utilize the limited amount of free space on the pitch.

Chirnside had the first chance of the game when a good freekick from Young was headed on to the crossbar by Turner but the resulting rebound wrong footed 3 Chirnside players and the chance was gone. The away side didn’t let this dampen their spirits and soon took the lead when some good play by Stobie, Purves and Young saw the ball played down the inside left channel for Turner to dribble through and place the ball past the on rushing keeper.

This seemed to waken up the home side and they began to get the ball down themselves and started to play a bit of football, but despite their 10 minutes of pressure the failed to get any joy out of the Chirnside back line. Chances soon started to fall again for Chirnside as they looked to increase their lead but Blaikie, Turner and Windram all missed good chances to score.

With 5 minutes left Windram made up for his earlier miss by scoring when a good ball from Blaikie saw him ride a couple of tackles before slotting the ball home from a relatively tight angle.

HT 0-2

West Barns Star began the second half in more positive fashion and took the game to Chirnside in search of a comeback goal. But despite a good 15 minutes of pressure on the Chirnside back line they only created one good chance but the West Barns player failed to hit the target. West Barns then hit the post in fortuitous fashion when a scuffed shot appeared to be going wide but got a funny bounce and kicked back inside and hit the bottom of the post.

Despite these scares Chirnside got a foothold in the game and three substitutions added more energy to their play. Substitute Strachan found himself getting some joy down the left and put in three good crosses one of which saw Blaikie unlucky not to score with a glancing header. Blaikie did get on the spreadsheet shortly after when a ball from Purves was played down the right flank for Lauder and he ran in on goal only to see his shot parried where Blaikie was on hand to touch it over the line.

Lauder then added a fourth soon after when a good ball from Stobie saw Lauder cut in from the left and blast a ball into the top corner. Chrinside had chances to add to their tally but both Strachan and McCrudden failed to convert when through on goal.
