Chirnside entertained title hopefuls Gala Rovers on Saturday looking to bounce back after the previous weekends disappointing defeat to Tweeddale.

The home team made a couple of changes from their last game with Morrison and Windram coming in to replace Turner and Blaikie. Chirnside set out their stall from the start with three up front and looked to give the Rovers defence no time on the ball. Gala also started brightly with their two front men looking dangerous.

Ten minutes in it was the home team that took the lead after Strachan was put clean through his initial shot was blocked by the keeper Kelly collected the rebound and squared to Strachan who scored with the away defence calling for offside.

After their initial start the home team then drifted out the game with Gala taking control of the game. They equalised on the 20 minute mark when their striker ran through unopposed to shoot past Cowe from just inside the box. Number two was not long in coming when their midfielder scored with a free header from a corner on the right.

Chirnside looked to hold out till half time with just the one goal deficit but Rovers had other ideas. A cheap free-kick on the right hand edge of the box was curled over the wall by the striker to give the away team a two goal cushion going into the second half.

The second half kicked off and straight away the home team had a chance to reduce the deficit. Lauder was put through one on one with the keeper but his effort was blocked. Stobie was then put through by McCrudden but his shot was again saved by the keeper.

Ten minutes into the half Lauder sprinted clear and was tripped by the Rovers left back. He was given a straight red card and Chirnside were awarded a free-kick right on the edge of the box. The resulting free-kick was blasted against the wall.

New signing Hoyle then came on for his Chirnside debut and he was unlucky to give away a penalty which the Rovers sweeper tucked away into the bottom right hand corner of Cowes net.

Chirnside never gave up and they pulled a goal back when substitute Ireland fired home a free-kick from 20 yards. The home team had chances to add to their tally but Windram, Kelly and McCrudden all missed the target.

This Saturday see's Chirnside travel to Langholm in a game they must take something from if they are to remain in the division.
