Chirnside travelled through to Pencaitland on Saturday knowing that there had to be a vast improvement on their previous performance if they were to take anything from this game.

The away team welcomed back regular keeper Cowe into the starting line-up and they started confidently, only the side-netting denying Windram in the opening minute. The home team then began to settle and a double block from Stobie kept them at bay.

Ten minutes into the half though Pencaitland took the lead. A long throw was only partially dealt with by the home defence and the ball came back into the box with the striker beating Cowe to the ball to head home from six yards.

Chirnside always looked dangerous on the attack and they got the deserved equaliser on the 25 minute mark. Blaikie went through a few challenges before beating the keeper with a left foot shot.

The away team could have gone into the break in the lead but Lough's shot was well saved by the keeper.

The second half kicked off with Pencaitland kicking down the slope and they were looking to go on the offensive in order to get the three points stay at the top of the league. Their pressure paid off ten minutes into the half when a cross from the right was floated to the back post and the striker made no mistake with his head to get his second of the game.

Chirnside pushed for the equaliser and thought they had it on the hour mark but Lauder's volley from distance was brilliantly palmed on to the post by the Pencaitland keeper. The away team then squandered what was to be vital miss. A cross from the right was met by Kelly with the goal at his mercy but his effort went back across the goal into the keepers hands much to the relief of the home support.

Pencaitland then went straight up the field following that miss and forced a corner. After a headed clearance from the home defence the ball was played back in and just like their first goal the ball was won in the air this time by their left back to beat the on rushing Cowe.

Lauder had a chance to reduce the deficit following a poor clearance from the keeper but his first time shot from 18 yards went just wide. With minutes left of the game to play Pencaitland added a fourth to secure the three points.
