The first midweek game of the season saw Chirnside pitted away against local rival Greenlaw. Chirnside were keen to put one over their local rivals after taking a heavy beating last season in the same midweek fixture.

It was Chirnside who began the brighter of the teams despite playing into a heavy breeze. But despite the majority of the possession in the first 15 minutes they failed to create any real chances from open play. It wasn’t until a set piece that Chirnside got their first chance a good disguised free kick from Turner set up Morrison on the volley but he saw his acrobatic effort fly over the crossbar from 10 yards.

Greenlaw then came into the game more and began to use the increasingly strong breeze to their advantage and tried some long range efforts, but stand in keeper J.Cowe dealt with them easily. The game turned into a rather dull affair for the remaining 15 minutes of the game with neither side creating any sort of real clear cut effort on goal.

HT 0-0

The second half began with Greenlaw applying the pressure but they also failed to create any clear cut chances. They did however strike the wood work when some slack marking by Chirnside allowed a free header from a tight angle. With Chirnside avoiding the scare they started to come into the game and took the lead through an Armstrong goal which he struck from long range low to the right of the Greenlaw keeper. Chirnside kept the pressure on were rewarded with a second goal on the 65th minute when a good corner from Lauder was met by Windram to power home the header from 6 yards, Chirnside then made sure their was no way back for Greenlaw when a good one two on the edge of the box by J.Turner and J.Stobie saw the latter blast in at the near post to make it three. Greenlaw very rarely threatened after this as Chirnside pressed for more goals but good goalkeeping and wayward shooting kept the score at 3 nil.
