Chirnside recorded a hard fought victory away to Hawick Legion as the Hawick side battles for A Division survival. The game started off pretty slowly with Chirnside playing down the slope into the slight breeze.

Chirnside grew into the game and got their passing game going and were beginning to see some luck down their own right handside. However it was from a corner kick which saw Chirnside take the lead. Captain Young swung in a great corner deep to the back post that saw centre half Christie arrive late and he managed to steer the ball in to the net at the post from a tight angle. Chirnside then should have went two nil up minutes after when good play by Morrison saw him play a one two with J.Turner resulting on Morrison cutting the ball back for Armstrong but with the goal gaping he managed to screw his shot past the post.

Chirnside were made to pay for this miss when Legion went up the park and some good play down their right saw them create a chance that was initially well saved by Black but the resulting rebound and clearance was blocked and the ball rolled over the line to make it one all. Despite the setback Chirnside should have immediately went a goal ahead again but Armstrong after some good individual skill elected to shoot when a square ball to Turner for a tap in would have been the better option.

However Chirnside did get the a second goal when a freekick from Cowe was flicked on by Morrsion to Turner who nodded it down to Windram who then showed good composure to lay it off to Armstrong to drill into the net.

HT 1-2

The second half began with the home side pressing for an equaliser and after ten minutes of the restart their pressure was rewarded when a rash tackle by young full back Wood saw him give away a penalty which Legion duly buried to even up the contest. This seemed to wake Chirnside up and they started to turn the pressure back onto Legion. Lauder was introduced to the play for the out of sorts Strachan and he almost made an immediate impact when rushing through on goal down the inside left channel to see his shot saved by the keeper, when again a square ball may have been the better option.

However Chirnside did get their third when some good play by Morrison saw him turn his marker a chip a good ball into the path of Windram who fired in a good cross for Lauder to score. The away side then wrapped up the points when another delightful delivery from Young was met by big Jocky Turner to guide a cushioned header over the on rushing keeper.
