Report

Chirnside were looking to get back on the victory trail against Jed Legion on Saturday after suffering four defeats on the trot.

Both teams started the day on 14 points and knew that a win was vital to edge away from the bottom half of the table. Chirnside made a few changes from the previous weekend with Kelly and G. Turner replacing A.Turner and D. Blaikie.

It was the home team who had the first chance of the game when Windram cut the ball back to Kelly who somehow missed the target from three yards out. After that early home chance Jed had one of their own 15 minutes in. Good work down the left saw the ball cut back and after a bit of a scramble the Right Winger's shot came back off the post with Black beaten in the Chirnside goal.

The home team then began to ply the pressure and they were rewarded with the opening goal. Young's free-kick was met by G. Turner at the back post and his header across the goal was volleyed into the corner of the net by Kelly. The same player had another chance a few minutes later but his shot was well saved following Stobie's cut back.

The second half kicked off with K. Blaikie replacing Strachan for the home team. Jed began the half looking to pressure the home defence and five minutes in they should have equalised but former Chirnside player Wright miscued his shot wide with only Black to beat in goal.

The half wore on with Jed continuing to press for the equaliser but Black only really had one save of note to deal with. Chirnside looked to hit on the break with substitute A. Turner causing a few problems with his pace.

The final whistle eventually went with Chirnside thankful to have overcome a stuffy Jed Legion side who never gave up.
