Chirnside and Duns played their first game in 8 weeks in the South Cup after a long layoff due to the recent bad weather and festive period. The long lay off and terribly windy conditions was repilicated on the field by a very incident and chance free game. Both teams tried to get the ball on the deck and it was Chirnside who had much of the attacking play as Duns found it extremely difficult to play into the strong head wind. Despite the wind advantage that Chirnside had they still found chances difficult to come by with the Duns keeper making one good finger tip save after a glancing header from Kelly. Both teams continued to try and create some sort of clear cut scoring opportunity but found that shot on the keeper were few and far between.

HT 0-0

The second half continued in much the same fashion as the first but this time Duns had the majority of the play as Chirnside battled to get out of their own half playing into the strong head wind. Despite the pressure Duns also were failing to create any clear cut chances, instead resulting to long range efforts that were usually wide of the target. Duns contiued to press and Black was finally called into action for the first time in the game saving a long range effort low down to his right. The game started to look like it had extra time and penalties written all over it, as still no team had created a clear goal scoring chance. But Duns then got the break that one of the teams had been looking for when a long punt down field resulted in a mix up between Stobie and Black which saw Stobie knock the ball past Black in their own box allowing the Duns player to usher the ball over the line to make it one nil. This spurred Chirnside into making some changes introducing attacking full back Donaldson and the two Turners but despite these changes and some long range efforts Chirnide could not find the equaliser.
