Chirnside suffered a bad defeat away to newly promoted Jed Legion on Saturday with the game being decided by a last minute penalty.

Chirnside began the game the stronger knocking the ball about well on a heavy pitch. Jed found it difficult to get any foot hold in the game and it was Chirnside who had the first half chance of the game, when a flick on from a Young long throw fell to Kelly but he saw his shot miss the target.

Chirnside continued to knock the ball about well but at the same time failed to create any clear cut chances to trouble the Jed goalkeeper. The men in green then missed another half chance when a good corner from Young was met by Morrison but he saw his glancing header creep over the bar. Chirnside then finally took the lead with a well worked goal involving Stobie, Morrison, Donaldson, Strachan and Kelly who setup Young to coolly place the ball in the back of the net.

Jed finally started to come into the game and started to create some half chances themselves but like Chirnside they failed to trouble the goalkeeper.

HT 0-1

The second half began with a role reversal of the first with Chirnside never getting out the starting blocks and Jed starting to play the ball around well with some good play. The first 10 minutes of the half saw Jed have Chirnside pinned in there own half, but despite the better percentage of the possession they failed to trouble the Chirnside back line.

However with 60 minutes gone in the match Jed got the equaliser after some slack marking saw the Jed player get a free tap in at the back post. Jed continued to press for another goal but again found chances hard to come by despite good play up until the Chirnside 18 yard box.

It was Chirnside that took the lead against the run of play when a tame freekick by Donaldson was made mess of by the Jed keeper and the ball squirmed over the line into the goal. Chirnside lead was short lived however when again terrible marking during a phase of play involving a corner saw Jed players queuing up to head the ball past Black.

Then in the final minute of the game Jed were awarded a penalty with Christie being adjudged to have handled the ball, the substitute striker made no mistake in scoring from the spot despite Black getting a hand to it. Chirnside then in injury time were unlucky not to score when Morrison saw his header cleared off the line.
