Report
Chirnside travelled to Innerleithen on Thursday night to take on the league champions in their final league game of the season. It was the home team who came out the blocks the quickest taking the lead after just three minutes. A cross from the right was scuffed by the Striker and the Left Midfielder was on hand to poke the ball home from close range.
After that opening blip Chirnside began create the better opportunities with Strachan and Shennan both going close. However, Leithen almost added a second on the half hour mark but the ball was cleared off the line with Black beaten. Chirnside did get their deserved equaliser with five minutes of the half remaining. Shennan ran on to a through ball and slid the ball past the advancing Keeper.
The second half kicked off with the away team again on the ascendancy. Shennan got his second of the game ten minutes into the half when he ran 40 yards before blasting the ball into the bottom corner of the net. Stuart then added number three when he hooked the ball home with his right foot after a cross from Young. Leithen's response was swift and they pulled a goal back almost immediately. A corner on the left was headed home by the unmarked Midfielder at the back post.
Chirnside then brought on Wright for Stuart with Shennan
dropping back to Midfield to accommodate the bustling young Striker.
Number four came for the away team with 15 minutes of the game left.
Shennan was brought down in the box and although the Keeper saved his
resulting penalty Shennan was on hand to roll the ball into the empty
net.
At full time Rovers were presented with the League trophy.
