Report
Chirnside knocked 8 past already relegated Hawick United in end of season game at Comrades Park on Tuesday night. The homeside started the brighter of the two teams and nearly opened the scoring early on but poor finishing from Shennan and Strachan kept the scores level. Chirnside finally opened the scoring when a corner was flicked on by Morrison at the front post for the prolific Stuart to tap in at the back post. Chirnside were looking comfortable and were moving the ball about well on a lush green pitch. However United equalised when Ponder looking like a lost sheep on the moors failed to keep the line with the back four and allowed the striker to rush in on goal and cleverly chip the on rushing Black to make it one all. Chirnside shrugged this off and got back in the lead just before half time when a cross from Shennan was hit on the volley by Turner into the back of the net.
HT 2-1
The homeside began the second half in much the same rhythm as the first with wave after wave of attacks. It wasn’t long before Chirnside increased there lead further when 50 yard ball from Shennan was delightfully controlled by Morrison who rounded the keeper to score. The Greens fourth and fifth goals were not long in coming with headed goals from Turner and Christie. Goal six then arrived from Shennan after a good cross from Young, this was to be the winger’s last contribution of the match as he was replaced by Wright. Goal seven came from Armstrong after some good footwork by the young striker saw him rattle the ball into the roof of the net from a tight angle. Armstrong then turned provider for the 8th goal when a good chip was met by Wright to guide the ball across the line for his first goal for the club.
