Chirnside were looking to bounce back on Tuesday night after Saturday's disappointment in losing the South Cup Final to Newtongrange.

The home team made one change from the weekend with Kelly coming in to replace Hume. Chirnside started with the wind at their backs and started well with Stobie and Young linking to good effect down the left. Turner was playing in an unaccustomed role in the right of Midfield and he looked to play Shennan through a couple of times in the early exchanges with the ball just running too far on both occasions.

The first real chance of the game came in 20 minutes after Shennan's initial shot was blocked he followed up with a shot over the bar. Young then had a right foot shot which sailed just over the bar. Although Chirnside had the lions share of possession Waverley still looked dangerous on the break with their lone Striker going through a power of running. Turner had a shot well saved and Armstrong blasted over from 18 yards as the half drew to a close.

The second half kicked off with Chirnside on the attack again. On the 50 minute mark Young had another chance but this time his left foot shot just cleared the crossbar with the Keeper beaten. Waverley then had a rare opportunity but the Striker's shot went over the bar.

The home team eventually got that elusive first goal when Shennan's cut back from the right was put into his own net by the unfortunate Centre Half. Minutes later Waverley nearly scored an equaliser. Black was beaten by a shot from Central Midfielder but Morrison cleared on his line via the crossbar.

The home team then looked to have scored a second but Armstrong could only knee an effort on to the bar with the goal at his mercy. Number two came with 20 minutes to go when Turner headed a cross goal bound only for the Waverley Central Midfielder to help the ball into the net with a sliding challenge.

Substitute Kev Strachan thought he'd got his first goal for the club but his effort was adjudged to be offside much to the dismay of the wee man. Chirnside held out with Waverley never really troubling Black again in the Chirnside goal. Davie Heads even made an appearance in the last couple of minutes with legs that looked liked they'd not seen daylight in a few years.
