Report
Chirnside run of up and down form continued with a defeat to Gala Rovers in the Waddell Cup.
The game was played in very windy conditions with Chirnside playing into the wind first half. Despite the conditions Chirnside started the game the stronger and gave Gala the run around for the first 15 minutes with out really creating any clear cut chances. Gala then came into the game and were unlucky not to test Black in the Chirnside goal from long range. Chirnside were defending well and were looking to hit Gala on the counter but again on the occasions when they did counter the final ball was lacking and Gala managed to retrieve the situation. Turner was then unlucky not have a chance when he caught out the Gala centre half with the ball on the edge of their box, but as for much of the season the luck of the bounce did not favour the home side and Gala were able to clear there lines. Despite Chirnside looking solid in defence Gala took the lead 5 minutes before half time when a mix up in midfield saw the ball break to the Gala striker who managed to chip the ball over the on rushing Black in the Chirnside goal from the edge of the box.
FT 0-1
The second half began with Chirnside looking to have more pressure and using the wind to there advantage. But despite the advantage of the wind Chirnside continued to struggle to create any real chances with the play in the final third of the pitch undoing the good work done in the build up. The game passed by with no team really creating any real chances with the wind being the more dominating factor in the game rather than any team. However on the 70 minute mark Chirnside went close to equalising when a good move involving Stobie, Shennan and Turner saw them set up Ponder but he skied the ball from 6 yards with only the keeper to beat. Despite this miss Chirnside finally equalised on the 75 minute mark when a speculative shot from Shennan was fumbled into the goal by the away team keeper.
Despite getting back in the game Chirnside went behind again on the 80 minute mark when a good move from Gala saw the winger blast the ball home from inside the box. Gala complete the victory with another goal with 2 minutes left to play.
