Chirnside hosted Pencaitland at Comrades Park on Saturday in a fixture which is always evenly contested. The home team were missing the influential figures of Turner and Hume and young Kev Strachan was given his first start of the season up front.

It was Chirnside who had the better of the early exchanges and after only five minutes they took the lead. A Young free-kick on the right evaded everybody and nestled into the far corner of the net to keep up his recent good scoring form. The men in green thought they'd doubled their lead five minutes later but Strachan's shot came back off the post with the Keeper beaten. It was a decent effort from the wee man with the size 13 boots.

Moments after that Chirnside had a shout for a penalty turned down as the referee adjudged the foul on Ponder was just outside the box. Pencaitland then began to come more into the game and their two Strikers were causing the Chirnside Defence problems with their pace and trickery. They equalised on the half hour mark after Ponder was disposessed in his own half following a slack Shennan pass and the Penaitland Central Midfielder smashed a great shot into the top corner from 25 yards.

The second half kicked off and straight away Shennan tried his luck from 40 yards, an effort which sailed just inches over. Chirnside thought they had taken the lead but the on the hour mark but the Pencaitland Keeper made a great double save. First he blocked Armstrong's drive then he followed that up with another great save to deny Ponder. The away team then had a goal disallowed after Goalkeeper Black was impeded following a corner swung in from the right.

With five minutes to go and Shennan pushed up front the home team finally took the lead. Young put the prolific hitman through and his finely timed lob beat the on-rushing Keeper. In the dying moments Ponder made sure of the result leaving three Defenders in his wake before slotting the ball home into the bottom corner of the net.
