Report
Chirnside picked up their third win since the turn of the year against Newtown.
Newtown started the brighter of the sides and had the lions share of the possession for the first 5 minutes. Chirnside though came into in the game on ten minutes and Turner was unlucky not to score after an effort from the edge of the box. Chirnside did however take the lead on the 15 minute mark when a free kick from Morrison was headed bravely over the keeper by Turner to continue his recent run of good scoring form. The home team were dominating the game without really playing some of the fluent football that has been present in recent weeks. Despite this the men in green went 2 nil up when a corner was only half cleared to the edge of the box by the away defence only for Young to pick up the ball and slot a great shot home from 20 yards.
Newtown however didn’t give up and had a half chance on the 35 minute mark but the Chirnside defence did well to clear out the danger. Chirnside continued to press for more goals but found some dogged defending from the away team as they looked to go only 2 nil down at half time.
HT 2-0
The second half began much in the same fashion as the first had ended with Chirnside doing the majority of the attacking with Newtown only have sporadic advances into the home teams half. However Newtown continued to defend well and kept Chirnside at bay until the 65 minute when Armstrong latched on to a ball from Young and then coolly placed the ball past the keeper from a tight angle.
Turner then forced the keeper into another good save from one of his trademark freekicks. Turner was then involved in the build up for the second goal when a good knock down let Armstrong in for his second as again he showed his poaching qualities by dispatching a delicate chip over the keeper. Chirnside were now well on top with the Chirnside back line having a pretty quiet day.
The home sides fifth and sixth goals were not long in arriving. Armstrong grabbed his hat trick and Chirnside’s fifth when Morrison played Shennan in down the wing and he crossed for Armstrong to have the simplest of tap inns from two yards. Shennan himself then grabbed the sixth when a good ball from Stuart saw the winger through on goal and he hit low past the keeper into the back of the net.
