Chirnside entertained the in form Pencaitland at Comrades Park on Saturday in the Second Round of the South Cup.

Conditions were not too bad considering the amount of rain that had fallen in the previous few days. It was the away team who kicked with the wind in the first half but it was Chirnside who took the early lead within two minutes. Shennan played Ponder in down the right and his cross was met on the volley by Turner to give the Keeper no chance from six yards.

The home team were well up for this game and didn't want to lose their grip on the trophy they won back in April just yet. Number two arrived after ten minutes with Turner scoring again with his trusty left peg following a Shennan shot from distance.

Pencaitland nearly pulled one back after a corner from the left was headed onto the bar by the Centre Half. Chirnside looked dangerous everytime they attacked the away goal and it was no surprise when number three arrived with Turner completing his hat-trick this time with a right foot shot.

Shennan got his first of the day and his teams fourth when he slotted home from close range. Pencaitland never gave up and rattled the crossbar again with Black well beaten in the home goal.

With a few minutes of the half remaining Pencaitland were handed a lifeline when a seemingly harmless ball into the box was cleared by Ponder hitting Stuart on the way out. The referee said the ball connected with the hand of Stuart and a penalty was awarded. Black saved the resulting penalty but his block rolled straight back out to the Striker to who poked the ball home.

The second half kicked off with the home team looking to continue their dominance with more clinical finishing. Following a nice move down the right Turner's cross ball was met by Ponder his shot was saved by the Keeper but Lauder followed up blasting the ball home for number five.

Chirnside continued to attack but Pencaitland always looked dangerous with their pace down the wings. The home team did get number six on the hour mark when Stuart headed home after a corner from Young.

The away team never let their heads drop and with five minutes to go their Striker looped a header over Black into the back of the net. A header from the Centre Half following a corner then reduced the lead further. Another shot hit the bar in the last minute, a penalty appeal was turned down and eventually the final whistle blew in what was keenly contested game.
