Report
Chirnside
were made to battle hard for victory before eventually overcoming 10
man West Barns in this 11 goal thriller.
The away team kicked off the first half with the swirling wind behind
their backs and looked to pressure the home defence straight away. Shennan
was linking up well with Turner but their play didn't culminate in any
chances.
West Barns were looking dangerous down the right and their Winger found
the by-line on a few occasions but there were no takers to the inviting
crosses put in.
On the half hour mark Shennan went on one of his mazy runs and after rounding the Keeper he was ready to tap the ball into the empty net but the Home Centre Half took the legs away from him resulting in a penalty and a straight red card. Lauder stepped up to take the penalty but the Keeper made a great save down to his left hand side.
However just a couple of minutes after the penalty miss Chirnside did take the lead with Shennan beating the Keeper in the air and heading into the net. Before half-time Shennan scored a penalty after a blatant push in the box adding his second of the game to give the away team the inititiative going into the second half.
The second half kicked off and after a crazy five minute spell the home team had scored three goals. The first came after a cross from the left was met by the Right Winger and he nodded into the corner of the net. The second came when the Central midfielder lobbed the ball over Black in the Chirnside goal and the third was slotted home after another cross from the left.
The away team looked shellshocked but to their credit battled back and Shennan equalised with a left foot shot to complete his hat-trick and Lauder's cross-cum-shot went into the net off the back post.
West Barns equalised five minutes later with a similar effort to Lauder's. A cross from the right by the Striker sailed over Black's head into the far top right hand corner of the net.
Chirnside then regained the lead again courtesy of a fourth goal for the prolific Shennan. This was soon followed by his fifth and the away teams sixth after he took Turner's brilliant cross field ball on the run and slipped the ball past the advancing Keeper.
The scoring was complete five minutes from time when Young put over a cross and Turner's header found the back of the net.
This weekend see's holders Chirnside take on Pencaitland in the South Cup at Comrades Park.
