Chirnside suffered their first defeat of the season against a clinical well drilled Pencaitland side. Chirnside began the game kicking up the Pencaitland slope and the first 10 minutes were fairly uneventful. Pencaitland then started to move the ball around with Chirnside unable to get a grip of the ball. Despite having the bulk of the possession Pencaitland failed to create any clear cut chances. On 25 minutes, Chirnside keeper Black was called into action saving a couple of good long range efforts.

The Chirnside team were struggling to get into it and were failing to create any chances against the solid midfield and back line of the Lothian side. Then on 35 minutes Pencaitland opened the scoring when a mix up in midfield saw the ball get released to the pacy left winger who managed to get his cross in and the striker was there to tap in from close range. Pencaitland pushed for a second as Chirnside were on the ropes but against the run of play Chirnside could have equalised when a cross from Shennan was missed by Lauder who was free at the back post.

HT 1-0

The second half again began as cagy affair with neither team creating any clear cut chances but again Pencaitland dominated the possession. The home side then went two nil up on 55 minutes when again Chirnside lost the ball in the middle of the park and the ball was again fed out to the left winger who formed an overlap on the wing and managed to deliver a cross that was bundled over the line by the striker.

This woke Chirnside up and the finally started to get the ball down and play but despite their possession Chirnside could not make that telling final pass into the box. The game continued like this for much of the second half with Chirnside pinning back Pencaitland but the home side were well organised and defended everything that was thrown at them to win the game two nil.
