Chirnside finally awoke from their pre season slumber and took some of the numerous chances they have been creating in recent weeks against league leaders Hawick Legion

Chirnside began the game with the light breeze behind them and immediately pushed the game high up the pitch. However it was Hawick that had the first real attack in the first five minutes but there shot from distance failed to trouble Black in the Chirnside goals. Chirnside then started to come into the game and Shennan was soon denied a goal when his 25 yard effort was tipped away from the top corner by a good save by the Hawick goal keeper. The Hawick goal keeper was then on hand again to make a good save when he denied Turner from 12 yards after a good knock down by Stuart. Hawick continued to look dangerous on the counter attack but they couldn’t make any inroads into the Chirnside penalty area as the Chirnside back four reduced them to long range efforts. The opener finally arrived when a good flick by Turner saw Lauder race through one on one with the keeper, his first effort was saved but he managed to net the rebound to make it one nil. The home side were now on the front foot and it wasn’t long before the second goal arrived when some good work by Shennan saw the ball get pulled back for Turner who coolly curled the ball round the goal keeper. Turner then went close to scoring his second minutes after when a good corner from Young was met at the back post by Turner but he saw his header hit the side netting.

HT 2-0

Chirnside started the second half knowing that 3rd goal would finish the game. With a stroke of luck Chirnside got the third goal when a speculative freekick wide on the right was curled into the box by Lauder, which the keeper then fumbled and it went through his legs into the back of the net. Hawick were struggling to gain any foothold in the match and it wasn’t long before Chirnside made it 4 nil. When some good work by Turner saw him square the ball for Lauder who calmly stuck the ball away low to the keepers left. To Hawick’s credit they kept plugging away but again they were reduced to long range efforts as they struggled to find that killer final pass into the Chirnside penalty area. Chirnside then fluffed a couple of good chances with Young and Shennan having rushes of blood to the head in front of goal and blasting over from close range when placement would have been the better option. Chirnside though closed out the game with another 2 goals with Turner being the scorer. His second of the game arrived when a Morrison freekick was flicked on by Lauder to the back post and Turner was on hand to stroke the ball past the keeper. Turner then scored Chirnside’s sixth when he picked the ball up thirty yards from goal and managed to curl the ball into the top corner despite the keeper getting his finger tips to it. With that goal Turner also completed his hatrick leaving him Lauder to argue over keeping the match ball. They tried to settle the dispute with a good old fashioned game of scissors, paper, stone but the game had to be called void as Lauder didn’t know the symbol for a stone.
