Report
Chirnside travelled to Lauder for the midweek game in the 2nd round of the Waddell Cup.
As expected, right from the start the game was a battle with Lauder kicking anything that moved and pressing the ball at every attempt. Chirnside had a couple of half chances in the first 10 minutes but failed to convert them Windram, Turner and Shennan the culprits. However on 15 minutes Chirnside opened the scoring when a cross by Shennan was bundled over the line by Windram. However Chirnside’s lead was short lived when a decidedly offside goal was awarded much to the delight of the large home support. Chirnside were not playing well, as Lauder seemed the hungrier of the two teams and muscled out Chirnside to both the first and second balls on numerous occasions. However Chirnside dug deep and took the lead when a through ball by Hume was latched on to by Shennan and he managed to blast the ball past the on rushing keeper. Chirnside’s third ball was not long in coming when a good cross from Young was met by Ponder who headed the ball into the roof of the net.
HT 1-3
The second half began with Lauder still battling hard and not giving up. However Chirnside persevered and were unlucky not score with some good defending and goal keeping from Lauder keeping the score down. Chirnside then got the 4th goal to kill the game off when big Christie who was up from the back met a Young corner to head the ball in off the Lauder keeper. Chirnside then seen out the game to book a place in the quarter final against Gordon where they will have to play a lot better if they are to progress further in this competition.
