Report
Chirnside made it to the Beveridge Cup final with what turned out to be comfortable win against a weak Hawick Waverley side.
The game however couldn’t have started any worse for Chirnside when within ten minutes Shennan failed to track the runner who put in a delightful cross to be headed home by the striker after some poor marking in the box also. Chirnside weren’t behind for long when with 5 minutes Turner equalised after dribbling from the half way line to the 18 yard box to score a well driven shot with his right peg. This settled Chirnside down and they were unlucky not to get another but Windram failed to convert from close range. Chirnside then took the lead when Young finally got his first goal for the club with a well taken goal from the edge of the box after his initial shot was blocked. Chirnside then made it 3-1 before half time when a good ball from Young was brilliantly taken down by Windram and he coolly slotted the ball home.
HT 1–3
The second half began with Turner being subbed for Lauder, and almost immediately Lauder scored after getting on the end of a cross from Windram. Waverley were then down to 10 men after one of their players had an unnecessary kick at Ponder off the ball. Chirnside then made it 5-1 when some good play by Windram and Ponder saw the latter cross the ball again for Lauder to head home. The scoring was then completed 15 minutes from time when Shennan cut back for Ponder to blast the ball in of the bar.
