Chirnside battled to a 4-2 victory at a windy rainy Stow in this midweek fixture.

Chirnside began the game playing into the blustery rainy conditions and were 1 up within 10 minutes when the ball broke to Turner after a good cross from Young and he managed to guide the ball past the keeper with a cool finish. Stow started to come into the game and used the wind to their advantage when a through ball carried into the Chirnside box only to be misjudged by Lugget and the striker managed to prod the ball into the net. This was a set back for Chirnside but they did almost reply immediately when good work by Turner, Morrison and Ponder sent Windram through on goal but the Youngsters lack of composure on this occasion saw him blast high over the bar. Stow were also pressing for a second goal but the blustery conditions made it difficult for them and the Chirnside defence mopped any through balls. Chirnside finally got a second when a corner from Young was cleared back out to him and his second cross was parried out by the keeper to Windram who this time did show some composure to control the ball and score Chirnside’s second goal.

HT 1-2

The second half began with Chirnside trying to use the wind to their advantage but they also found it hard to keep the ball in play. However Chirnside did get an early first half goal when good battling by Ponder saw him cross for Windram to nod the ball in at the front post to make it 3-1.

The away team were now beginning to pin Stow back but some good defending from the home team kept the score at 3-1. Chirnside continued to press for more goals but were then dealt a blow when the ref gave a corner when the ball had went out for a throw and from the resulting corner Stow pulled one back after some terrible marking saw Stow score at the back post.

The game was now stretched as Stow pressed for an equaliser and Chirnside pressed for more goals. Chirnside were then denied buy the woodwork when a Hume free kick was met my Morrison but he saw his header cannon off the bar. Chirnside then introduced Lauder and Stuart to the action. Lauder almost had an immediate impact but he saw his low drive well saved by the Stow keeper. Ponder then manufactured a chance for himself as he turned his marker in the box and drove to goal but the keeper made another good save.

Chirnside then put the game out of site when a good run down the left channel by Lauder saw him cross the ball for the on rushing Stuart who crashed the ball into the net with a good finish. To Stows credit they continued to press for more goal but Chirnside seen out the remainder of the game to win 4-2.
