Report
League leaders Chirnside were looking to make it 10 wins in a row when they were up against Border Cup finalists Stow at Comrades Park on Saturday.
The home team were forced to make one change from the victory over Langholm last week with captain Morrison injured, birthday boy Young came back into the side. It was the away side who started the brighter in the early exchanges without really troubling Luggett in the Chirnside goal.
It was the men in green though that took the lead after 15 minutes when Lauder rose unmarked in the box to nod home a cross from Shennan. The goal spurred on the homesters and they piled the pressure on to last seasons Second Division champions. Ponder missed a couple of great chances to double the scoreline but he missed the target on both occasions.
Shennan also rounded the keeper twice but his final touch unusually let him down. Lauder should have doubled his tally but he headed over from four yards with 10 minutes of the half remaining.
Chirnside kicked off the second half knowing that a second goal was needed in order to keep their unbeaten run in tact. The goal duly arrived five minutes in when Stuarts's nod down at the back post was turned in by Stobie for his second goal of the season.
It was now one way traffic with the home team again passing up numerous chances to add to their lead. The third goal however did arrive on the hour mark after Shennan's header at the back post saw a scramble take place with both Shennan and Lauder claiming they got the final touch as the ball went over the line.
Young thought he'd scored his first goal for the club with 20 minutes remaining but his left foot shot fizzed just over the bar. The fourth goal came in the 80th minute when Shennan closed down and tackled the the unfortunate keeper who'd been in inspired form up till that point to blast the ball into the empty net.
Next Saturday Chirnside travel to Newtown for the Third Round of the South Cup.
