Report
Chirnside entertained Langholm in the first game of the New Year for the papermakers. In true Chirnside fashion it was a very blustery day.
The home team started with the wind behind them and it wasn’t long before the chances started falling with Shennan and Ponder on either flank being the main providers. Shennan also had the first real chance of the game but he blasted straight at the keeper from a tight angle. The first goal did arrive when Ponder managed to get the ball to the byline and cut it back for Shennan to blast home. The second goal wasn’t long in coming when a clearance from the Chirnside defence wasn’t dealt with by the Langholm defence and the ball broke for Lauder to tap in to the empty goal.
Chirnside continued to cause the Langholm full backs plenty of problems but poor execution of crosses and blustery conditions kept the score line at 2 nil.
HT 2-0
The second half began with Chirnside trying to play some football in the ever increasingly windy conditions. It wasn’t long before the 3rd goal arrived with Lauder getting his second of the game. Langholm were starting to look tired but to their credit they never gave up and did have long range efforts which made Jason (Jumbo) Lugget work in the Chirnside goal. Goal number 4 arrived when a nice through ball by Shennan saw Ponder grab his first of the game. Langholm did however bounce back and managed to sneak a goal when the Chirnside defence made a mess of the clearance to make it 4-1.
However this was the final push from Langholm and the lack of playing action began to tell when in the final 20 minutes Chirnside scored anther 4 goals through Lauder 2 and Windram 2.
FT 8-1
