Report
Chirnside ran out winners with a score line that slightly flattered them.
The home side started the game kicking up the slope at Comrades Park and dominated the first 10 minutes with only a couple of chances falling to Turner and Shennan respectively. Pencaitland finally found their feet and gradually came into the game with some good football being played down their left hand side. No side was really creating any clear cut chances with the visitors going close with a couple of long range efforts.
The paper makers then took the lead on the 25 minute mark when a good ball from Stobie released Shennan who got into the box and squared it for Turner to tap home from close range. Chirnside were now doing the majority of the attacking and will feel unlucky not to get two penalties with both Ponder and Stobie having good claims turned away.
Chirnside did then get their second goal of the game when a good ball from Turner released Ponder into the box who managed to get the ball over the line at the second attempt after the keeper failed to deal with his first effort.
HT 2-0
The second half began with Pencaitland in more determined mood and for the first 20 minutes of the half the away team pressured the Chirnside back line but could not find anyway through.
Chirnside having weathered the storm finally got some possession and started creating some half chances but none that really troubled the Pencaitland keeper. Chirnside were now on top but Pencaitland managed to dispossess Shennan and they broke up the pitch and scored. Shennan then made up for his error by regaining the home teams two goal cushion with a good goal after some good work by Ponder and Turner. This knocked the stuffing out of Pencaitland and Chirnside dominated the last 10 minutes with Shennan, Morrison and Windram going close before Turner put the result beyond any doubt by smashing the ball into the top corner after a long Wimbeldon style punt from Shennan.
