Report
Chirnside suffered their second defeat of the season again at the hands of Gala Rovers. Chirnside started the game kicking with the strong wind on their backs. The men in green took the direct approach straight from the off trying to get in behind the Gala Rovers defence. Chances were few and far between in the first 20 minutes with both sides failing to create any sort of real clear cut chances. Chirnside had their first chance when a good corner from Young was swung but Christie failed to direct his header goal bound. Gala were next to have a chance but their long range effort from the edge of the box was well tipped over by Lugget in the Chirnside goal. Chirnside themselves went close from long range but the Gala keeper coped well with shots from Shennan and Mckinnon. First goal of the game soon arrived when a quick break up field saw Chirnside fail to clear the ball and the Gala striker was there to blast the ball into the back of the net. Chirnside then had a good chance to score when a Mckinnon fired the ball to the back post but Shennan was unable to make a good contact with the ball and the keeper smothered it on the goal line. Gala were looking constantly dangerous on the break but Chirnside managed to fend of the danger to go in 1-0 at half time.
The second half began with Gala using the wind to their advantage trying to get in behind the Chirnside defence. However after a dodgy opening ten minutes to the half Chirnside started to come into and were starting to put the home side under some pressure. The men in green had a half chance when a good cross from Johnson was fumbled by the keeper in a challenge from Young but the loose ball landed on the grounded wingers back and the keeper managed to retrieve the ball. Despite Chirnside having a good ten minutes worse followed when Gala broke away and managed to make it 2-0. Chirnside didn’t give and managed to get a ball back when Stobie was up ended in the box and Hume managed to dispatch the penalty to make it 2-1. Chirnside were now pressing for the equaliser but failed to convert any of the half chances that fell their way from Shennan, Christie and Windram. Gala held on take a crucial 2-1 win and stretch their lead at the top of the league.
