Chirnside were looking to pick up their first points of the season against the early league pace setters Hawick Legion on Saturday.

The Legion set out their intentions from the start playing three up front but it was the away team who were causing more bother up front. Although there were no clear cut chances the pace of Windram and the aerial prowess of Turner were unsettling the Hawick back four.

The away team took the lead on the 20 minute mark when Ponder went clean through but he was unceremoniously dumped to the deck after a rush of blood from the keeper. Turner kept his cool and he side footed the ball to his left to give Chirnside the lead.

Ten minutes later Chirnside doubled their lead when Ponder beat three men before toe-poking a right foot shot into the bottom left hand corner of the net. The away team held onto their lead despite Hawick causing a few problems with their height from set-pieces. The only down side to the first half for the away team was the injury caused to keeper Omari when he suffered a suspected broken wrist after a clash with the Legion Centre Forward on the stroke of half time.

The second half started with Kelly taking over from injured Omari. The home team looked to pin Chirnside back into their own half but the men in green defended well and restricted Hawick to just a few half chances.

The away team however were alway dangerous on the break and Windram should have made it three but his weak right foot shot was easily saved by the keeper. Shennan did make it three though when he broke from just inside his own half and his shot sneaked under the Legion keeper from 12 yards.

Chirnside should have wrapped up the points but Shennan missed two one on ones inside the last 20 minutes.

There was then a 10 minutes delay in the game when the referee was knocked out by the ball after a volleyed clearance from Hume. After some treatment from both sets of medical men the game resumed.

The home team were then awarded a soft penalty with five minutes to go when the striker went down after being challenged for the ball by Johnson and Stobie. The Hawick Central Midfielder tucked the ball away into the right hand corner of the net.

The away team were now on the rack and a second goal for Hawick came in the last minute when a deflected shot lobbed over Kelly and into the net to leave a tense ending to the game.
