Report
Both teams were looking for their first victories of the season in this Border Cup tie at Coldstream on Saturday.
The away team welcomed back Ponder and Shennan from suspension and started the brighter of the two teams passing the ball about well on the heavy pitch. Windram should have scored twice within the first 10 minutes but he was denied by the keeper and a last ditch clearance off the line by the Coldstream Centre Half. Chirnside however did take the lead minutes after when Windram slotted home after the keeper had saved his initial shot.
Turner should have done better after 20 minutes but his cut back from the left was cleared when the shot looked the better option.
Simpson was causing the away defence a few problems with his pace and thought he had won a penalty on the half hour mark but the referee waved away his claims.
Wilson then had a shot from 25 yards which came crashing back off the bar with Omari stranded. The home team did equalise with 10 minutes of the half remaining when Wilson rose the highest to nod home after a corner on the right.
The second half started and within minutes Chirnside had restored their advantage when Shennan cut back for Lough to score his first goal for the club. The away team looked to extend their lead and after 55 minutes Shennan did that when he spotted the keeper out of position and drilled the ball home from 20 yards.
Coldstream tried to come back into the game but they were thwarted by good goalkeeping and a stout away defence. Turner nearly made it four for Chirnside but his curling shot came back off the bar. He did however seal victory in the dying minutes when his left foot shot hit the right hand corner of the net after beating two defenders.
Overall this was a good performance from the men in green after getting off to a poor start in their opening league fixture two weeks previous.
