Chirnside began this game in menacing fashion and were one nil up within 3 minutes when a good combination of passing from Ponder, Turner and Windram setup Shennan to slot the ball home. Chirnside continued to attack and were putting pressure on the Selkirk defence for long periods but some dodgy finishing that had affected the paper makers in recent weeks was again apparent with Shennan and Turner again being the guilty culprits for the 3rd week running.

Chirnside then went two nil up on the 25 minute mark when a corner from Young saw Windram head the ball goal bound but his effort was stopped on the line by the defender but Ponder managed to bundle the resulting rebound over the line.

Turner and Shennan then combined superbly but the final effort from Shennan was blasted over the bar. Chirnside frontline were then guilty over play when Windram crossed the ball back for Turner who looked to have the easy task of putting the ball in the net but he decided to square it to Shennan who in turn blasted over the bar from close range much to the disgust of the Chirnside touchline.

On the 35 minute mark Chirnside increased their lead further when a good ball from Ponder sent Logan down the right wing where he cut in towards the goal and blasted an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net.

HT 3-0

The second half began in the same vain as the first with Chirnside creating chance after chance but Turner, Shennan, Ponder, Windram and Young were again squandering chance after chance.

The fourth goal finally arrived when a good ball from Windram released Shennan who crossed for Turner to put the ball into the back of the net. Chances then came and went for Chirnside with again Shennan and Turner missing the majority of them.

Goal five then arrived when Turner was put through by Young and his shot was fortunate enough to deflect off the Selkirk keeper in to the net. The sixth goal wasn’t far behind with Turner supplying Shennan with the ball this time to blast under the keeper into the back of the net.

With 5 minutes to go Chirnside then had a chance to go 7-0 nil up when the ball broke to long term absentee Morrison on his return to the squad but he powered his header past the post from the edge of the box.

However Chirnside did finally go 7 nil up when a good ball from Cowe released Shennan and he scored his hatrick with a great shot into the goalkeepers’ bottom right.
