Report

Chirnside entertained local rivals Coldstream in this league encounter at a wind swept Comrades Park on Saturday. The home team kicked off into a strong wind in the first half and they looked the more likely of the two teams to open the scoring with McKinnon and Turner both going close.

However, it was Coldstream who nearly broke the deadlock after 20 minutes following Keeper Lugget's fumble the away striker could only look on in agony as his shot came back off the post and was cleared to safety. This spurred on the men in blue and 5 minutes later they took the lead. A Turner freekick 20 yards out was blocked by the wall and a quick breakaway ended up with the Coldstream right winger slotting the ball home at the far post.

Chirnside tried in vain for the equaliser, the closest they came was when a Ponder shot was cleared off the line by the away Centre Half. Coldstream then doubled their advantage in the closing stages off the half with the ball going in direct from a corner on the right.

Chirnside had the wind in their backs in the second half and after just 5 minutes Shennan pulled a goal back when his left foot drive flew into the back of the net leaving the keeper rooted to the spot. The home team looked increasingly likely to equalise and it was no surprise when Shennan added his and his teams second 10 minutes later.

After 65 minutes Turner scored what turned out to be the winner when his left foot drive from 20 yards beat the away keeper and nestled into the bottom right hand corner of the net. The home team had a few more chances to add to their tally but Shennan's shot from 25 yards skimmed the bar and Christie's point blank header was instinctively saved by the Coldstream keeper.

Midfielder for the day Chris 'Goozil' Young said: 'As the age old cliche goes it definitely was a game of two halves.'
