Report
Chirnside added to their good win against local rivals Duns last week with a hard fought victory against East Lothian men West Barns Star.
The game began with a pretty uneventful first 10 mins with not much
football being played in a tightly packed midfield. However the first
chance arrived for Chirnside when Ponder went clean through on goal
with only the keeper to beat but he shot a lame effort straight at the
keeper and the chance was gone.
Lugget in the Chirnside goal was then called into action when a cross
from the right handside was fizzed in only to come off Chirnside defender
Christie and head goal bound but a good reaction save by Lugget prevented
the goal.
Windram for Chirnside then had two glorious chances to open the scoring
but the youngster failed to capitalize on the chances and the score
remained even. With 25 mins gone Chirnside finally scored when Shennan
picked the ball up on the half way line and proceeded to dribble down
the right flank taking on the winger and the full back before cutting
in along the by-line past the centre half and round the goal keeper
to tap in a glorious solo goal.
However not to be outdone West Barns went straight on the attack and
nearly equalised but a good save from Lugget kept the away side in front.
Chirnside's second goal soon arrived when Ponder pounced on a mistake
by the defence to blast the the ball past the goalkeeper to make it
2 - 0.
West Barns then pulled a goal back after some poor marking allowed the
striker to blast home a good volley from the edge of the box on the
35 minute mark. With Chirnside now all over the place the West Barns
team could sniff an equaliser and they were rewarded for their effort
when again some poor marking allowed the striker to blast home a good
shot to even the scores up just before half time.
HT 2 - 2
The second half began with Chirnside having to get back to basics and
to try and rescue the game that was slipping away from them. Chances
were few and far between in the opening 15 mins of the half. The first
chance then fell to Ponder but again he failed to finish when one on
one with the keeper. Windram was also going to fall into the curse of
bad finishing when he missed another couple of good chances when it
was only the keeper to beat.
West Barns also had a couple of half chances but they struggled to cause
any real trouble to Lugget in the Chirnside goal. Chirnside then took
the lead again when a strong tackle by Logan in the midfield saw the
ball break up front where again Logan chased it down and won a strong
50 -50 challenge with the keeper to tap into the empty net.
The men in green then thought they should of had a penalty when the
wirey Stobie looked to have been tripped in the box but the ref seen
it differently and booked the full back for play acting.
The game was then put beyond doubt when Shennan showed the younger boys
how to round the keeper and tap the ball home in to th empty net to
round off the scoring.
