Chirnside began their 2007/2008 campaign with an impressive team performance away to Pencaitland. The match began with Chirnside playing down the the hill with a substantial tail wind aiding them in every attack. The first half chance arrived when a mix up in the home side defence allowed Windram to race in on the keeper but the 50 - 50 challenge favoured the keeper and he did just enough to scramble the ball to safety. The first goal of the game soon arrived on the 20 minute mark when P. Johnson flighted a ball into the path of the speedy Windram who burst down the flank to cross the ball which in turn was not completely cleared by the defence and Stobie arrived late to rip the net off with a pile driver.

The game began to see Chirnside take a bit more of a hold of proceedings and Windram, Stobie, Kelly and Shennan all went close. Pencaitland did try and attack on the counter but a combination of good keeping, the defence and a swirling wind kept them at bay for the majority of the first half.

HT 1 - 0

The second half began with Pencaitland going straight on the attack, using the blustery condition to their advantage. However the Chirnside back unit kept the attacks at bay. With the home side attacking at every opportunity Chirnside were finding it difficult to get a hold of the ball, however a quick counter attack which saw some good combination play from Windram, Kelly and Shennan saw Windram cross for the arriving Stobie on the right flank but he blasted over from six yards when it looked easier to score.

Stobie however made amends when a good tackle in the centre of the pack and a neat layoff resulted in Snowball galloping down the wing where he duly played in a delightful ball for Windram to stab home to make it 2 nil to the away side.

This again rallied Pencaitland and their striker then rattled the crossbar from all of 30 yards. With Chirnside now under a bit of pressure it looked a matter of time before they got on the score sheet. Then on the 70 minute mark Pencaitland manged to scrape a goal back after a goal mouth scramble.

The comeback was short lived and Shennan broke from midfiled to blast a delightful shot under the keeper to restore the away sides two goal lead. To make it 1 - 3 and this scoreline was to remain until the final whistle.

Goal scorer Stobie commented " It was a good team performance by the boys, I'm just pleased I scored as I won't be getting the rubber duck at the end of the season from Big Gav now!!"
