Report
Chirnside travelled to Hawick on Saturday minus eight first team regulars but still managed to grind out a result against a dogged Legion outfit. The away side started well and Shennan and Turner both made the keeper work early on.
Steven Christie making his first start for Chirnside slotted into Centre Half and it was the big Ayton man who opened the scoring. Following a corner on the right a scramble ensued and Christie was there to stab the ball home for his first goal for the club.
Hawick did create a few half chances but these were all dealt with by Luggett. The away team added number two shortly before half-time when Bolton blasted in a penalty after Shennan was brought down in the box.
Into the second half both teams were finding the going tough on the increasingly heavy pitch. The defences were on top and chances were hard to come by. However with fifteen minutes to go Chirnside should have made it three but Shennan blazed over from 16 yards.
The game petered to an end and the away team progressed through to the semi-finals of the Beveridge Cup. Bug victim Derek McKinnon said: "I was laid down with the squits. I've been on the pan all day."
