Chirnside slumped to their first home defeat of the season against league leaders Leithen Rovers on Saturday.

The home team were slow out the blocks and it was no surprise that after 10 minutes the away team took the lead. After a quick break up the park the ball fell to the right winger and his shot from 25 yards nestled into the top corner. Rovers kept Chirnside on the back foot and minutes later they doubled their lead. Following a goal-mouth scramble the away centre forward slid in to make it two. Chirnside knew they had to do something and Bolton moved into the middle with Ponder going out wide left.

This seemed to have a positive effect and the home team created a few half chances but none were taken as the half finished. Chirnside started brightly in the second half but they were to be dealt a sucker blow when Rovers hit them on the break and the centre forward slotted home after neat interplay. Chirnside knew they had to get on the score sheet soon if they were to get anything from this match.

The goal came after 60 minutes with Bolton curling a free-kick into the the top right hand corner of the net. The home team were now pushing forward at every opportunity but it was the away team who added a fourth hitting on the counter attack. Keeper Lugget could only parry a shot which fell invitingly at the centre forwards feet and he made no mistake from 3 yards.

Chirnside never gave up and Turner lofted a ball over the top, Shennan was first to react deftly chipping a volley over the keeper from a tight angle. It was all or nothing now for the Berwickshire outfit and Turner went close with a header that came back off the bar. With time running out the away team sealed the victory with another swift counter-attack ending with the centre forward slotting past the helpless Lugget.

This was a bad result for Chirnside as they fell further behind the leading teams. They will hope to get back to winning ways when they face Stow next Saturday. Striker G Dog Kelly said: "We were never really at the races today. The damage was done in the first fifteen minutes when we went two goals down and we never recovered from that."
