CHIRNSIDE FOOTBALL CLUB - NEWS
27th February
The long trip to Dumfries proved fruitful for Chirnside as they returned with a 5-2 win that secures them a semi-final place against Carluke Hearts. The game saw the return to real goalscoring form of Steven Shennan as he bagged 4 of the 5 goals Chirnside scored, a fantastic effort. Chris Young got the other goal with that "sweet left foot" of his. An all round decent team performance from Chirnside, next up is a trip to Hawick Legion in the league.
20th February
Well, after two games in two weeks for Chirnside it was inevitable that they would have a blank weekend, and that proved to be the case ! It's South Cup action up next for the men in green as they travel to meet Lochar Thistle.
13th February
Two games in two weeks for Chirnside following recent postponements, something of a novelty !!
The players didn't let the lack of recent football affect them though as they ran out 6 - 0 winners against Newtown at Comrades Park. The star of the show was Robbie Armstrong who showed the club that they needn't worry about losing Jordan Lauder as he bagged himself a hat trick, other goals from regular scorers Turner and Shennan and a rare goal from left winger Chris Young complete the scoring. Pleasing for the Chirnside management must be that the team kept a clean sheet for the first time since 7th December.
6th February 2010
The South Cup tie went ahead !!!!!!!!!!!!! It was lucky for Chirnside too, as they went through to the quarter finals with a 7 - 3 victory. Goals for Turner (3), Shennan (2) and Lauder (2). The game saw Hawick end up with only 9 players following 2 dismissals, 1 for a clash with Turner and 1 for dissent. Following the win Chirnside now go on to meet either Gordon or Lochar Thistle. Next up is a league game though, this time at home to 3rd place Newtown.
30th January 2010
The South Cup tie away to Hawick United was re-scheduled again this week, so, of course, it was postponed to bad weather. It will be attempted again next week, 38th time lucky I guess !
23rd January 2010
Chirnside were back in action this past weekend, their first match since the 5th December, and their first of 2010, and what better way to start than by getting a good win over your nearest rivals. A 5-2 win over the Dingers with regular scorers Turner, Shennan and Lauder scoring, with 3 fine assists from Chris Young. This coming weekend Chirnside are scheduled to play Hawick United in the South Cup, the 37th time this match has been arranged............. fingers crossed it goes ahead this time !
16th January 2010
Yep, you guessed it - another fixture called off, so another blank week for Chirnside. Hopefully this weekends South Cup tie at Hawick United will go ahead..........
9th January 2010
Another blank week for Chirnside due to the inclement weather.
2nd January 2010
No fixtures this week in the Border Amateur League.
1st January 2010
Happy New Year to all visitors to this site from Chirnside Football Club.
26th December 2009
No fixtures this week in the Border Amateur League.
19th December 2009
Chirnside had another blank week with the weather putting paid to another fixture.
12th December 2009
Chirnside's game at the weekend was called off due to the bad weather, but one really important contest did take part - the club held its annual Christmas party where the Chirnsiders faced off against the Interlopers in a Ryder cup style pool and darts tournament. The Interlopers, led by the fisherman Paul Johnson defeated the locals, lead by the enigma Jocky Turner in a 13-7 rout.
The highlight of the evening was a devestated Jocky Turner presenting the Challenge Tankard to the victorious Interloper Captain Paul Johnson.
5th December 2009
After all the goals in recent weeks, it was inevitable at some point that the goals would dry up, and this was the case against Greenlaw, although it wasn't for lack of trying, or lack of chances created, it was just one of those days where the strikers didn't have their shooting boots on, and when they did the Greenlaw keeper made a good save. Lauder did manage to score the goal in a 1 - 1 draw, but the draw will go down as a poor result for Chirnside who have fallen further behind Leithen Rovers in the league. Next up is an away trip to Stow for Chirnside, but Comrades Park will be hosting a game at the weekend, the Border Cup Final between Pencaitland and Hawick Legion.
28th November 2009
Chirnside are certainly the team to watch on a Saturday if you want goals, another 9 scored in their game this past weekend, luckily they come out winners 5 - 4 in an entertaining match, a great comeback considering they were 4 - 2 down early in the second half. With that result, their November record reads 4 wins from 4, with 23 goals scored and 11 conceded - you won't find entertainment like that in the SPL or Premiership ! Goals from regular scorers Turner (pen), Lauder & Shennan along side goals from Stuart and a rare one from Stobie ensure the points come back to Comrades Park.
21st November 2009
Another game involving Chirnside that consists of lots of goals, the six scored in this game make it eighteen goals scored in the last three games ! However, the three conceded make it 7 in the last two games, although as both games have been won, I don't think the team will mind too much. Goals from Turner (a hat trick) and one each from Lauder, Stuart and Shennan complete the scoring. This puts them into the third round of the South Cup where they face an away trip to Hawick United. Next up it's back to league action for Chirnside as they play Gala Rovers away.
14th November 2009
Goals galore at West Barns, as the home side score 4, but still lose the game by 3 goals as Chirnside put 7 away. Shennan doing the damage with 5 goals, yet still only getting a 7 out of 10 rating !! The other goals coming from the strike duo of Turner and Lauder. Not a game for the defensive purists out there, and if Alan Hansen was watching, he would probably need brought round as neither side could stop conceding early in the 2nd half ! A win is a win for Chirnside, and they have a tough tie next week at home to Pencaitland in the South Cup.
7th November 2009
After the disappointing loss in the Border Cup, Chirnside got back to winning ways at the first attempt with a fairly comfortable win against Stow at home. The 5-0 scoreline was probably deserved at the end of the game, and Chirnside even managed to miss a few half chances here and there too. The goals were spread around too, with Lauder grabbing a brace (1 pen), Young getting a rare goal, Armstrong getting his third of the season and Shennan chipping in too. Next up for Chirnside is an away league game at West Barns Star.
31st October 2009
Chirnside let a 2 goal lead slip away against Hawick Legion in the Border Cup, goals from Turner and Lauder put them 2 - 0 up in the second half, but Legion battle back to win 3 - 2. Some dubious offside decisions help them on the way, and to add insult to injury Morrison is red carded for Chirnside for handball. A game the team will want to put behind them quickly and focus on the visit of Stow this coming weekend in the league.
24th October 2009
A good win for Chirnside against a solid Muirkirk side who failed to take advantage of the windy conditions in their favour in the first half, although keeper Black makes a couple of good saves to keep Chirnside in it. The team score 4 goals in the 2nd half, and can even afford Turner to miss a penalty - although he does make up for it with a good free kick. Shennan gets his first goals of the season in London bus fashion, you wait for ages then three turn up at once !
17th October 2009
A game that Chirnside feel they should have won, several spurned chances in the first half (which could have ended up 4-0 if they had been taken) are to blame for a 4-2 defeat, opponents Leithen Rovers are much more clinical in front of goal and end up victors 4 - 2. Chirnside are now relying on other teams beating Leithen to have any chance of the league.
10th October 2009
A poor performance from Chirnside as they lose 2 - 0 away to Pencaitland in the league, that's twice this season they have failed to score in a game, and given that they scored in every game last season, you actually have to go back to 29th March 2008 to find the last time they didn't score (away to Langholm in the league). Things will have to improve for this weekends visit of Leithen Rovers who have won 6 out of 6 in the league so far.
3rd October 2009
A good away win for Chirnside, beating newly promoted Hawick United 5 - 2, a scoreline which could have been better given that they were 5 - 0 up at one point. Two goals for the in form Lauder, one from Turner, one from Armstrong who had only been on the pitch a few minutes as sub and an own goal for the men in green. Next up is a tough away trip in the league to Pencaitland.
26th September 2009
Chirnside finally find their shooting boots ! Despite in recent weeks creating numerous chances, the team have not been finding the net often enough. That was finally solved this week when they ran out 6 - 0 winners over Hawick Legion at Comrades Park. Striking duo Turner and Lauder each grab a hat trick as the team run out comfortable winners against the early pace setters in the division.
19th September 2009
A tough Border Cup first round tie goes the way of Chirnside as they edge out the team they beat in the final last season, Stow. Goals from Lauder and Armstrong see the green and whites through, although the amount of chances missed in the game could be a concern to the management !
12th September 2009
No action for Chirnside this weekend as their game away to Greenlaw was cancelled due to a referee shortage !
5th September 2009
Chirnside record their first goalless draw in a long time ! No team can trouble the scorers on a wet and cold September day at Comrades Park, both sides have chances and both rattle the crossbar, but the game ends goalless, a result that left the away team happier than the home team.
29th August 2009
The new league season is underway, and Chirnside take all 3 points from a local derby against Duns, despite missing a few first team regulars. Goals from Christie, Stuart & Windram secure a 3-2 win, after going a goal down.
23rd May
No fourth trophy of the season for Chirnside as they go down 3 - 2 to Leithen Rovers in the Beveridge cup final, despite leading the game twice, they lose out to two late goals. Chirnside's scorers were Turner and Windram.
That game was the last of the season for Chirnside, and a very successful season it was, a league title, the Border Cup and the South Cup all in the trophy cabinet. Quarter final of the Waddell Cup and finalists in the Beveridge Cup - a great season indeed !
19th May
Chirnside probably put on their worst performance of the season as they go out of the Waddell Cup following a shock 4-2 home defeat to B league team Gordon. Shennan and Ponder score for the home side, but it's Gordon who progress to the semi finals.
The night is rescued however, when it is confirmed that Leithen Rovers could only win 6 - 2 in their final league game, so Chirnside are :
LEAGUE CHAMPIONS !!
A great effort, and truly deserved for an exceptional season.
16th May
Chirnside travelled their longest league trip of the season, in their final league game - all the way to Langholm. It was to prove a good trip though as the team won 4 - 2 meaning second placed Leithen Rovers had to win their last game by seven goals to take the league title. Two goals each from Turner and Lauder ensure the win.
12th May
Another cup game, another away game, another win ! Chirnside make the quarter finals of the Waddell Cup with a 4-1 win at Lauder. They now go on to meet Gordon for a place in the semi final where the winner will play West Barns. Goals from Windram, Shennan, Ponder and big Stevie Christie see them through. Next game sees Chirnside make the long trip to Langholm for their final league fixture of the season.
9th May
Chirnside are into yet another final in this great season, a 6-1 win away at Hawick Waverley in the Beveridge Cup puts them into the final where they will play Leithen Rovers. Goals from Turner, Windram, Lauder (2), Ponder & a very first goal for Chris Young see the team through.
5th May
A good away win in the league at Stow sees Chirnside take another step towards the league title, they now have 51 points from 21 games with an away game at Langholm still to play. Second placed Leithen Rovers have played 19 games and have 45 points, so if they win all their games it will come down to goal difference ! Chirnside have a slightly better one at the moment, but it could be close !
Away to Stow, goals from Windram (2), Turner and Stuart see Chirnside through to a 4-2 victory. Next game is the Beveridge Cup semi final on Saturday (9th) away to Hawick Waverley.
2nd May
Chirnside progress in the Waddell Cup with a "much harder than it should have been" victory against Pencaitland. They were 4-1 up at one point in the second half, and eventually went through 4-3. This sets up a tie against Lauder (away - again !) in the next round, this game is scheduled for Tuesday 12th. A hat trick for Jocky Turner in this game with the other goal from Windram.
28th April
Chirnside let a 2 goal lead slip and can only draw at home with Hawick Legion. The home side put themselves in a great position, going 3 - 1 up before half time. Several chances were wasted in the second half and then Chirnside were hit with 2 sucker punches as the Hawick team score twice to grab a draw. Chirnside now face a real battle for the league title with 2 away games left, 1 at Stow next Tuesday (5th May) and one away at Langholm still to be arranged.
25th April
More cup action for Chirnside, this time the third attempt to play their Waddell Cup preliminary round tie away to Leithen Rovers went ahead. As expected it was a very tough game and Chirnside went through 2 - 1 thanks to goals from Shennan and a penalty from Turner after Windram was brought down. This puts Chirnside into the next round where they will travel to Pencaitland for what should be another tough close fought match, although Chirnside will meet Hawick Legion at home in the league before this match.
21st April
Back to league business for Chirnside, and their first home game in a few months as they easily brush aside bottom team and already relegated Coldstream Amateurs 5-1. Goals from Windram, Shennan (2), Turner and Morrison ease Chirnside to the win. Next up is an away tie at Pencaitland in the preliminary round (honest !) of the Waddell Cup, followed by a home game against Hawick Legion on the Tuesday, no doubt the Legion will be out for revenge following the South Cup defeat.
18th April - SOUTH CUP WINNERS !!
Chirnside have won the South Cup following a 3-1 victory over Hawick Legion at Innerleithen. Goals from Stuart, Morrison and an own goal give the team a hard fought victory and their second South Cup win in 5 years. Next up is a home game (yes, HOME - first in 3 months) against already relegated Coldstream.
11th April
Chirnside enjoy hard-fought victory away to Hawick Waverley, keeper Jason Luggett being the hero with a late penalty save to preserve the 2-1 victory. Goals from Brian Stuart and a 30 yarder from Shennan for the Chirnside team. Next up is the small matter of the South Cup Final against Hawick Legion which will be played at Innerleithen.
4th April
A battling draw away to Leithen Rovers in the league, a back and forth game ends 3-3, two goals from Jocky Turner (including another trademark free kick) and a strike from Jack Windram for Chirnside. Next up for the paper makers is another away trip (9th in a row now !) to play Hawick Waverley in the league.
28th March
The Waddell cup match for this weekend was called off by Leithen Rovers, no re-scheduled date as yet.
21st March
BORDER CUP WINNERS !
The first bit of silverware is in the bag for this season as Chirnside win a tough game against Stow at Netherdale. Late goals in each half from Jocky Turner bring the cup home for the men in green. Next up for Chirnside are two games against Leithen Rovers, one in the cup, one in the league.
14th March
Chirnside weren't away this week, but they weren't at home either, it was the South Cup semi final, so it was a neutral ground, so more travelling for the team - this time to Innerleithen. The game itself was played in blustery conditions and despite going a goal down in the first minute Chirnside booked their place in the final with a good 5 - 2 win, they will now meet Muirkirk or Hawick Legion. Next up for Chirnside is the Border Cup final against Stow, and then two weeks in a row away to Leithen Rovers, one in the Waddell Cup, one in the League.
7th March
Chirnside were at home this week, actually I'm only kidding they were away again, but this time it was the shortest away trip they could make with the opposition being Duns. The Beveridge Cup tie ended up 4-1 to the away side with Jocky Turner netting a hat trick, not just a normal hat trick, but a "perfect" hat trick, one goal with his right foot (honestly), one with his left and one with his head. Shennan got the other goal for the men in green and white. Next up is another away trip, Chirnside's 312th in a row this season, away at Syminton Tinto in the South Cup Semi Final.
28th February
Chirnside visit Newtown for the third time this season so far in the Border Cup Semi Final and secure their place in the final (against Stow) with a hard fought 2-1 victory, despite going a goal down after a minute. Keeper Luggett saves a late penalty from Newtown to send the team through. Next up is a trip to Duns in the Beveridge Cup followed by another trip to Symington Tinto in the South Cup. The last home game at Comrades Park was a 4-0 win over Stow back on the 17th January - at least the pitch should be good next time out.......
21st February
Chirnside see action for the first time in February with a trip to Dumfries to take on Lochar Thistle, it looks like the break let some players re-charge their batteries as they win 5 - 3 and are through to the semi finals of the South Cup where they will meet Symington Tinto, who have beaten 3 Border Amateur sides to get this far, Earlston Rhymers, Pencaitland & Coldstream Amateurs. They won their semi final 4-1 on pens after a 2 - 2 draw with the fantastically named Carluke BAPS.
14th February
Another blank weekend for as their clash with Hawick Waverley fell victim to the lovely British weather.
7th February
No game for Chirnside this past weekend as the Waddell Cup game away to Leithen Rovers was called off. They are back in action this coming weekend (14th) away to Hawick Waverley in the league.
31st January
Chirnside earn a battling draw away at Pencaitland with Lauder scoring another goal for the club. Chirnside actually take the lead, but the home team equalise in the second half to take a share of the spoils. A tough game on a very wet pitch in blustery conditions so a draw is not a bad result.
24th January
Chirnside battle through to the next round of the South Cup with a really hard fought win over Newtown. The away team going through 3-2 after extra time. The teams were 1-1 at the end of normal time, but Shennan got the winner in the second half of extra time to send the men in green through. The other goals came from Morrison and Lauder.
17th January
Chirnside make it 10 wins in a row and now go a huge EIGHTEEN points clear at the top of the league. A 4 - 0 home victory over Stow, another goal from Lauder, Shennan bagging a brace and a strike from reporting god Stobie for the home side.
10th January
Chirnside go goal mad as they thump 8 past bottom team Langholm Legion, Jordan Lauder adding to his already impressive goal tally with FOUR ! Other scorers were Jack Windram, Steven Shennan and Andrew Ponder. This puts Chirnside a huge FIFTEEN points clear at the top of the league !
3rd January
The long trip to Hawick at the weekend was averted as the game was postponed. No re-staging date as yet.
27th December
A hard fought, literally, win against the 'enthusiastic' Newtown team for Chirnside as they show that they have the heart for a battle and come out on top by 2 goals to 1. Goals for Jocky Turner and Jordan Lauder on his first start for the club give the home team the win. This extends their lead at the top of the league to a massive 12 points now.
20th December
Chirnside take local derby with Duns by 5 goals to 2, a comfortable win with goals from Stuart, Turner (2), Ponder and super sub Lauder who yet again nets after coming on. The only downside was the injury to skipper Morrison who was taken off after 10 minutes with a rib injury.
13th December
Chirnside continue their good run of form with a 6 - 1 away win at basement side Coldstream Amateurs, goals for ex Streamers Stuart (2) and Lauder as well as strikes from regular scoreboard botherers Turner and Shennan, all this coming after Morrison opened the scoring, equalising an early home lead.
6th December
Pencaitland are sent packing by Chirnside by 4 goals to 1, a result that sees Chirnside go top of the league after 10 games played and 8 wins, netting them 24 points. 30 goals scored and only 10 conceded gives them a healthy goal difference too.
